Jewellery Designs: Keeping Inventory Fresh and Fashion Forward

In 2005 a decision to reconstruct a bracelet began my career as a jewellery designer. It quickly spiralled to result in a few exhibition shows and a feature on a runway show in downtown Toronto.

My passion for this expression of art is constantly fueled by trends in the fast-paced fashion world. Observing the way fashion filters from the runway down to daily street wear has always been of great interest to me. Any design, no matter how diluted, can be traced back to its original patterns from the runway. Today’s daily wear is often last seasons’ runway successes. Determining what will actually filter down from the runway and begin trending on our streets is difficult to forecast.

As a jewellery designer, being able to forecast the trends helps greatly as you build your brand and expand on your designs. An excellent source for trending fashion forward jewellery designs is the stage set by Hollywood’s elite on the Red Carpet. Whether it is the Oscar’s, The Grammy’s, or the People’s Choice Awards, everyone is watching who is walking the Red Carpet and who they are wearing. Whether it’s the flashy vintage rings of singer/songwriter Pink, or the colour splashes of Katy Perry’s wardrobe, every bit counts as it quickly filters down to the streets of everyday fashion. This blog will examine these trends in jewellery now being set on the Red Carpet, impacting trends, and sales for upcoming seasons.
