Oscar Awards: A Look Back

With the Academy Awards only a few hours away the media is in frenzy about what trends will walk the Red Carpet tomorrow. http://www.torontosun.com/2014/02/27/fashion-trends-for-oscar-night

We all have our favourites, but there are some actors that definitely stand out trend setters more than others. Inspiring jewellery designs after these fashion forward actors will give your designs a fresh update.

Among our favourites being nominated this year is: Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams, Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep.

Actor Cate Blanchett often displays an elegant balance between artsy and classy and does not seem to be afraid to make a statement with style. When we saw her Indian-inspired body jewellery at the 2000 Oscars, she wore it with confidence. She accomplished that look with taste. On the other hand, as we saw at the Grammy’s, the way Cindy Lauper wore overstated gold jewellery, was a design fail. Balance is definitely the key in choosing the right jewellery to complete, but not over-power a look.

One star that usually has a well-balanced clean look is actor Jennifer Lawrence. At last year’s awards show she wore a back necklace of diamonds and her look has made her a favorite among designers.

At last year’s Oscar’s Amy Adams wore a shimmering silver full-length gown. Her look was gorgeous and refined. She completed it with drop diamond earrings and woven design bracelet, but they appeared to fade into the background of the flowing gown. Hopefully, this year the American Hustle star will present her look with something more bold. 

When Red Carpet royalty like Angelina Jolie walk the carpet, everyone forms an opinion. However, when we saw her striking emerald earrings on the fashion radar, it was difficult to forecast how the look would affect the market. By the summer of 2008, formal wear was teeming with striking drop green earrings. The look began trending. This look is still trending even down to the current awards season as we saw with Paula Patton’s jewellery choice.
