Summer 2014 Formal Wear: What Will Be Trending

Celebrity trends catch on quickly. From the 2009, Academy Awards we saw Angelina Jolie’s striking green earrings begin trending immediately. With stars like Many Kaling still featuring green earrings, it is evident that this trend is still current. It is definitely worthwhile to make sure that green earrings are still included in your jewellery inventory. By matching the punchy green colour tone and the basic shape of pieces like this, we can recreate this look successfully.

The Academy Award for Best Costume Design this year went to the 1920’s feature film ‘The Great Gatsby’ (CBC, 2014). This may be an indication of trends to come this summer. For instance, the back necklace worn by Jennifer Lawrence again this year may very well be a result of the 1920’s styled jewellery trending. This design is a very easy look to duplicate. Although it may seem like a matter of rebranding a regular necklace, it is not quite that simple. To get this look an opera length necklace (24”) should be constructed without a clasp. The necklace then remains consistent through its entire form. This is another inexpensive way to update your inventory to reflect current styles.

Even though fine jewels were the accessory of choice, this does not mean that we need to change our inventory and begin stocking diamonds and sapphires. Red Carpet trends can still be replicated using inexpensive substitutes. Green earrings, geometric statement necklaces, and crystal ear cuffs are all within reach of your basic design inventory. Keeping up with trends on the Red Carpet, and using the basic design elements to vary our current inventory, we can keep sales steady.
